[f. a- prefix 1 intensive + druᵹian to (become) dry, see drow v. and drought. There was also an OE. adrýᵹan to (make) dry, which seems to have been confused in 2–3 in the south with adruwien, so that the latter is used in the senses of both the earlier verbs.]
