cordia, n.|ˈkɔːdɪə| [mod.L., f. the name of Euricius Cordus (1486–1535) and Valerius his son (1515–44), German scholars + -ia1.] Any plant of the tropical and subtropical genus Cordia, of the borage family, comprising evergreen and deciduous shrubs and trees grown as ornamentals for their showy flowers and in the tropics for timber.
