1) 可以采取进行时态，不表示“死亡”，而是类似中文的夸张口气形容某种生理或心理状态，搭配是 to be dying of。

也可以根本脱离“死亡”的意义，表示正面良好的“渴望”、“急于要”，搭配可以是 to be dying for 或 to be dying to inf。

• I was dying for a drink.我渴望喝点饮料。
• They're dying to meet you.他们渴望同你见面呢。

2) 表示死因，疾病用介词 of。

• die of malaria死于疟疾
• die of illness病死。

饥渴也用 of。

• die of hunger饿死
• die of thirst渴死。

偶尔也有用 with。
