又作 small print。往往一些广告甚至一些有法律效力的文书，用大字体写出比较笼统一般的内容，而一些具体的细节，甚至隐藏的伏笔，却用小字体 (fine print, small print) 写出。有些意图诈骗的人，也常常用这个手法。例如：商店为了招徕顾客，登出“大减价”的广告，说一切商品 up to 60％ off（最高可以打四折），但是 60％ off 用大体字，up to 则用小体字。不细看，就以为所有商品都打四折了，其实说不定许多只打九五折 (5％ off)。fine print 或 small print 的用法，

• Never sign a contract until you have read the small print.没有把小字体的条文看过之前，千万别随便签署一个合约。

也可以转义为“不明显但却至关重要的不利迹象”。

• The mass hypnosis reminds them (=the centrists) of the mortgage frenzy —all these people buying into a dream and not caring about the fine print.(Froma Harrop, The Daily Gazette, Schenectady, New York, Feb. 20, 2008, A9)这种大批人如醉如痴的状态，在中间派看来，就像是前一阵次级房贷的狂热一样，这些人把一切都当真，放进梦幻当中，毫不理会乐极生悲的迹象。
