The name of a Roman proconsul of Achaia, whose refusal to take action is recorded in Acts xviii. 17 (‘And Gallio cared for none of those things’), applied gen. to one who is indifferent. Hence ˈGallio-like a. and adv.; Gallionic |gælɪˈɒnɪk| a., characteristic of a Gallio, indifferent.
