1. Ophthalm. A state of increased pressure of the intra-ocular fluid; = hypertension 1 b. Now rare.
1891F. P. Foster Med. Dict. III. 1944/1 Hypertonus, that condition of the eye in which the intra-ocular tension is increased, sometimes without any organic disease being present. 1918R. H. Elliot Glaucoma: Textbk. for Student v. 300 It would appear, then, that the thrombotic type of glaucoma possesses a very distinct inflammatory element; it thus comes into line with the hypertonus which we find secondary..to intra-ocular tumours.
