[f. radical of ind-icum indigo + -ium, after sodium, etc.; in reference to the two indigo lines which form the characteristic spectrum of the metal.]
A soft silver-white metal of extreme rarity, occurring in association with zinc and other metals; discovered by Reich and Richter in 1863, by means of spectrum analysis, in the zinc-blende of Freiberg. Symbol In.
