一天，老鼠胖子和老鼠瘦子在山边玩。

忽然，他们两个看到山对岸有一棵苹果树，苹果树上硕果累累，又大又圆的苹果压弯了枝头。他们见了直流口水。胖子对瘦子说：“我们到对岸去摘苹果吧！”可瘦子却失望地说：“我们没办法摘到苹果啊！我们又不会飞。”于是，他们绞尽脑汁想出了个办法，从家里搬来了一块又宽又长的木板，去摘苹果。

到了目的地，胖子压住木板的一头，叫瘦子从木板上走过去。瘦子小心翼翼地移向木板的另一端。终于能摘到苹果了，瘦子用手紧紧抱住苹果，使劲地把苹果摘下来。

瘦子摘下苹果，放到鼻子前一闻，啊，真香，可胖子急红了眼，连声说：“瘦子，把苹果还给我。”瘦子说：“苹果是我的，不给你。”胖子急了，他松开木板去争夺苹果。这下可糟了，木板一滑，胖子和瘦子一同掉下了悬崖。可怜的老鼠，他们不但没有吃到苹果，还把自己的命给送了。
