Liebermann–Burchard reaction, the reaction of unsaturated sterols with acetic anhydride and sulphuric acid in chloroform, which produces various coloured solutions; used esp. as a test for cholesterol, when a blue-green colour is produced; so Liebermann–Burchard test.
