[a. Pg. Mateus, the name of an estate at Vila Real, northern Portugal.]
A proprietary name for a semi-sparkling rosé wine first made on the Mateus estate and subsequently more widely in northern Portugal. More properly Mateus Rosé (since the brand is also used for white and red wines).
