The theory that all knowledge is based on observation. Also, the doctrine that observation, rather than theory, is the basis of science. Hence obserˈvationalist a. (n.), adhering to observationalism; practising observational as opp. to theoretical work; also, one who adheres to observationalism. Also observatioˈnality, closeness to the level of observation; non-theoreticality.
