The name of a former royal residence on the Isle of Wight used attrib. and absol. to designate a type of sweetish plain biscuit.
Said by the manufacturers (private communication 14 March 1977) to have been first made in 1860. It was originally intended to name them after Queen Victoria, but she asked that the biscuit should be named after her favourite home—Osborne—on the Isle of Wight.
