[a. ON. Austmenn, pl. of Austmaðr, men of the East; latinized Ostmanni.]
The name given in Ireland and Iceland to invaders or settlers from Denmark and Norway; esp. the Northmen or ‘Danes’ in Ireland and their descendants settled in some towns on the East coast of that country.
