1. One who pads (see pad v.2 1 b).

2. A padding machine.
1927C. E. Mullin Acetate Silk (1928) xxviii. 361 It is usually best to dye the acetate silk first and then cross⁓dye the cotton either in the padder or jig. 1955Jrnl. Soc. Dyers & Colourists LXXI. 894/2 In order to get as good impregnation as possible before the fabric reaches the nip of the padder, this small volume is combined with a comparatively long path through the padder trough. 1971E. 3. Electronics. Also padder capacitor, condenser. A usu. adjustable capacitor connected in series in a tuned circuit in order to improve the tracking with another tuned circuit at low frequencies when the tuning of the two circuits is ganged (as in a superheterodyne). Cf. trimmer.
