[L. parapherna pl. (in the Digest), a. Gr. παράϕερνα pl., f. παρα- beside + ϕερνή dower.]
1. Rom. Law. Those articles of property held by a wife over and above the dowry she brought to her husband, and which remained under her own control; see paraphernalia 1.
1706Phillips, Parapherna or Paraphernalia Bona (Gr.), those Goods that a Wife brings her Husband over and above her Dower, as Furniture for her Chamber, wearing Apparel, Jewels, etc.1727–41in Chambers Cycl.
