The synthetic compound 5-ethyl-5-(1-methyl-butyl)-barbituric acid, which is widely used as a sedative-hypnotic and anticonvulsant drug, usu. in the form of its sodium salt, C11H17N2O3Na, a white crystalline powder often known by the proprietary name Nembutal; = pentobarbital.
