[Arbitrarily f. person, app. after the etymologically formed corporeity: cf. also hæcceity, ipseity.]
Used by Coleridge app. for a. That which constitutes a person; the being or essence of a person, personship. b. concr. A being of the nature of a person, a personal being. (App. intended in both uses to avoid some of the connotations of personality, as applied to a human being or to one of the persons of the Trinity.) Hence affected by some later writers in different senses of personality and personage.
