[a. G. phragmoplast (L. Errera 1888, in Bot. Centralbl. XXXIV. 397), f. Gr. ϕράγµ-α fence, screen: see -o and -plast.]
A set of fibrils which appears during mitosis in some plant cells as a barrel-shaped structure joining the two sets of chromosomes after their separation to the poles and which lasts until the formation of the cell plate.
