这是个集合名词，作为一个整体，前面可以按照定指或不定指加上定冠词或不定冠词。人数多，可以说 a large/numerous population (*many population)，人数少，可以说 a small population (*few population, little population)。其他的形容词搭配，可以用 crowded, dense, teeming, sparse, growing, rising, decreasing, shrinking 等（注意：一个整体，用 a 单数）。population 不但可以指“人口”，还可以指处于特殊状况的人群（主要着眼其数目）。

另外，population 不光是可以指人，也可以指动物群（着眼其数量）。
