1) as + adj (adv) + as possible，表示“尽可能如何”。

• Have as much fun as possible.尽量开心吧。
• The index should be as short as possible.目录应该尽量简短。
• He sat as far away from the others as possible.他坐得尽量同其他人离得远些。
• As far as possible try to work on your own.尽可能设法自己干。
• Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler. (Albert Einstein)样样事情都要尽量简单，但是别再简单了。
• I want to live as normally as possible.我想过尽可能正常的生活。

2) 如果前面的形容词是修饰一个名词的，则这个名词不能带定冠词，只能带不定冠词或零冠词或不定指示词，成为 as + adj + [a] noun + as possible。

• Read as many books as possible.尽量多看书。
• in as simple language as possible用尽可能简单的语言。
• The book requires a publisher with the power and facilities to communicate it to as wide an audience as possible.这本书需要一个有力量、有条件，能使之到达尽可能广泛的读者群当中去的出版商。

3) 前面两种用法，第一个形容词都用原级，不用最高级，但是有最高级的意义；如果 possible 前面的形容不用 as... as 前后管着，而是直接放在 possible 前面，则这个形容词就要用最高级，而且必须有定冠词（或其他表示特指的限定词）。

• the soonest possible date尽可能最早的日期
• We provide the best possible accomodation for our students.我们向学生提供尽可能最好的住宿条件。
• We should keep this in the safest possible place.我们应该把这个保存在尽可能最安全的地方。
• I want to spend the least possible time working.我想花尽可能最少的时间在工作上。
• The men controlling the movement had the strongest possible motives for removing De Gaulle's representatives from the scene.控制着运动的人，怀有最强烈不过的动机要把戴高乐的代表们排除到舞台之外。
• Suez split the Western alliance at the worst possible time. (The New York Review of Books, March 29, 2007, p.33)苏伊士运河事件，在最为不利的时刻使得西方联盟发生分裂。

有时前一个最高级形容词所修饰的名词，甚至名词词组，可以移到 possible 之前。

• in the nicest way possible尽量妥善地
• specialization to the highest degree possible尽可能最高度的专业化
• the greatest number of households possible尽可能多的人家。
