[ad. Gr. ψῡχοποµπός, f. ψῡχή soul + ποµπός conductor, guide.]
A conductor of souls to the place of the dead. Also, the spiritual guide of a (living) person's soul; a person who acts as a guide of the soul.
In Greek, a name applied to Charon; more commonly to Hermes, the Anubis of Egypt, and to Apollo (Plut. 2. 758 B).
