1) 作为及物动词（表示延续状态，第一类动词），它最简单的搭配，是加上一个表示所需事物的直接宾语。

• Formal dress required.务请穿正装。
• How many copies do you require?您需要多少份？
• All I require now is your signature.我现在只需要您的签字。
• This work requires great concentration.这个工作需要全神贯注。
• We can supply the screws if required.如需螺丝钉，我们可以供应。

2) 直接宾语是人，后面再加上 to inf.，此时 require 有“要求某人必须做某事或具有某种情状”的意思（仍然是第一类动词）。

• Candidates are required to provide three photographs.候选人必须交上三张照片。
• Applicants are required to have experience.求职者必须有工作经验。
• The course requires you to be bilingual.课程要求你必须能操双语。

3) 直接宾语可以是要求的事物，再用 of 引入对方的人（仍然是第一类动词）。

• All that is required of you is that you observe the rules.对你的唯一要求，就是请你遵守规则。
• I shall do all that is required of me.凡是需要我来做的，我都做。

4) 仍然是第一类动词，直接宾语可以是 that（可省略）引入的名词从句，从句中的谓语动词用虚拟语气（采用动词原形）。

• The law requires (that) everybody here wear a helmet.法律规定此处人人都必须戴头盔。
• It is required that you begin work at 8 a. m. every morning.要求你每天早上八点钟开始工作。

5) require 有时候也可以表示“提出要求”的瞬时行动，此时就用作第四类动词，搭配与作为第一类动词时相同（但不用 to be required of 的搭配）。

• Since he was involved in the case, the court required his appearance.由于他和该案有牵连，法院就要他出庭。
• They required that we finish (should finish) our work ahead of time.他们要求我们提前把活干完。
