[Skr. samprasāraṇa, lit. ‘a stretching out, extending’, f. sam- together + pra- forth + -sāraṇa extension.]
In Sanskrit, the interchange between the vowels i, u, ṛi, lṛi and their corresponding semi-vowels y, v, r, l; hence, a similar process in other Indo-European languages.
