A proprietary name for a compound used to fill cracks in plaster and produce a smooth surface before decoration.
1928Official Gaz. (U.S. Patent Office) 7 Feb. 17/1 Spackle... A surfacing compound for filling imperfection so as to bring up to a smooth and level surface areas that are to be painted or decorated.
