yardie, n. (and a.) slang (orig. W. Indies).|ˈjɑːdɪ| Also Yardie. [f. yard n.1 1 g + -ie.] A member of any of a number of West Indian (esp. Jamaican) gangs engaged in usu. drug-related organized crime; also more generally, a Jamaican. Freq. attrib. or as adj. Cf. *posse n. 1 d. In Jamaica the word is not applied to members of a local gang, but to Jamaicans who have been gang-members abroad and who return home.
