Yuan Longping was born in Jiujiang City, Jiangsu Province in 1930. He is the Chinese hybrid rice breeding expert and regarded as The Father of The World's Hybrid Rice.
In 1960, Yuan started a hybrid experiment on rice. In July, he found a specific rice plant. The next year, he proved this to be a "natural hybrid rice", and he was determined to use agricultural science and technology to defeat the threat of hunger.
In 1987, Yuan formed a hybrid rice research group. After nine years' hard work, he had a major breakthrough in crop breeding, and has kept the level of Hybrid Rice Research in China leading the world.
From Yuan Longping, I learn the qualities of persistence, dedication and diligence. His outstanding achievements contribute not only to the national food security but also world peace. He is really the model of contemporary Chinese and the pride of our country.
