The names of T. A. E. Klebs (1834–1913) and F. A. J. Löffler (1852–1915), German bacteriologists, used attrib. to designate the bacterium (Corynebacterium diphtheriæ) which is the cause of diphtheria in man and similar diseases in other animals.
