■ problem 与 question

中文都是“问题”。这两个名词在英文有时候意义相同，可以互用。

• the housing problem/question住宅问题
• the problem/question of unemployment失业问题
• to tackle/to deal with a problem/question处理一个问题
• to solve a problem/question解决一个问题。

但是有时候两者在词义上和习惯搭配用法上有相当大的差别。problem 侧重“困难”、“困扰”，接近于“难题”；question 则侧重“疑问”、“求答”。

• He has a weight problem (*question).他身体过重。
• She's got boyfriend problems (*questions).她情场不如意。
• I'm having problems(*questions) deciding.我正在踌躇未决。
• Any problems, just call me.有问题就找我（找我帮忙克服困难，不是找我帮忙找出答案）。
• The question is who will pay the money.问题是由谁来付钱。
• There remains the question (of) how to restore order.还剩下如何恢复秩序的问题。
• To be, or not to be, that is the question.(Shakespeare. Hamlet)生死存亡，这就是问题。

可以说 answer 或 solve（有点勉强）一个 question，但只能 solve 而不能 answer 一个 problem。

此外，in question（*in problem 则不可）可以作为后置定语，表示“当前涉及的”、“这个”。

• Where were you during the time in question?你这段时间在什么地方？

out of question (*problem) （更常用 beyond question）是“不成问题”；out of the question (*problem) 是“根本谈不上”、“不可能”。
