1) 介词用 on，意为“舞台”（常用单数，而且常用定冠词 the，只有第一次介绍一个特定的舞台或对舞台加以描绘时才用不定冠词 a)：

• She walked out on the stage and started to sing.她登上舞台，开始唱起来。

也可以指抽象意义的“舞台”（此时仍然用定冠词 the）。

• Triconodonts made their debut on the evolutionary stage almost 200 million years ago.三牙形虫是将近两亿年前在进化舞台上首次出现的。

由此产生了副词 onstage，而 go onstage 就是“（演员）登台”的意思。Stage fright 是表演者的“怯场”。

2) 介词用 at（偶尔也用 in），意为“阶段”（可单复数，前面可以加任何定指或不定指的限定词以及其他形容词。

• The project is in its final stages.项目到了收尾阶段。
• At this late stage, there is little we can do.到了这个后期阶段，我们没有多少办法了。
• We'll need to discuss this at some stage.到了一定阶段，我们就要讨论一下。
• The task will be accomplished in stages.任务将分期分批完成。
