1) 这个动词，作为及物动词（延续状态，第一类动词）时最基本的意义，是“经过某事件或某个他人的去世后仍然活着”。

• He survived his children.他一直活到自己儿女去世之后。

多活的时间，用 by 表示。

• He survived his wife by ten years.他在他妻子去世之后又活了十年。

常常以被动语态出现，此时主语指已经死去的人。虽然人已死，但仍可以用一般现在时。

• She is survived by her daughter.她的遗属有她的女儿。

2) 直接宾语可以不是人而是事件（瞬时事件，第四类动词）。

• He survived the operation.他经受住手术，安然无恙。
• Two of the crew survived the shipwreck.船只失事后，船员有两人幸存。
• His grandfather survived the war.他的祖父经过战争幸存下来了。
• None of the flowers survived the storm.所有的花都没能经得住那场暴风雨。
• Their love didn't survive the end of money.钱一用光，他们的爱情也就维持不下去了。

3) survive 也可以是不及物动词，意义仍然是“活下来”、“保存下来”（第四类或第二类动词）。

• Few animals survived after the forest fire.森林大火之后，能活下来的动物很少。
• The play does not survive in its original form.这出戏剧，已经没有保住最初的形式。
• The custom has survived into the twentieth century.这个风俗一直保留到 20 世纪。

4) 作为不及物动词，survive 也可以不一定涉及生死攸关的大事，而只是经过淘汰仍然保存下来，甚至只是一般的“安然无事”（第四类动词）。

• Only two jurors survived.经过筛选，只剩下两名陪审员。
• Even if I fail the entrance examination, I'll survive.即使我入学考试没有通过，我也会活得好好的。
