■ rob

这个表示“掠夺”、“抢劫”的及物动词，它的搭配，同中国人的语言心理不一致。直接宾语是人，不是物。掠夺去的东西要用 of 引入。

• Gangsters robbed a bank of one million dollars.一些匪徒抢劫了某家银行的一百万美元。
• She was robbed of all her savings.她的积蓄全被掠夺一空。

但是，表示“盗窃”的 steal，搭配却接近中国人的心理，是 steal something from somebody。

• He stole a bike from his neighbor.他偷了邻居的一辆自行车。
• Several paintings were stolen from the museum.博物馆被盗了几幅画。

但是偶尔也有以“物”作直接宾语的，尤其是没有提到被抢劫的“人”的时候，此时搭配同 steal 一样。

• ... set it afire on Sunday, then robbed $100 after the clerk fled the flames. (Morning Union, Springfield, Massachusetts, Feb. 24, 1986)…星期天放了火，趁职员逃出火焰之后抢劫了一百美元。

尤其是 rob 用于抽象的转义时，可以以不属钱财范围的事物为直接宾语。
